Birthdays, planners, walking and other things

I started to write a blog post a few times over the past week but didn’t manage to finish, it’s been such a busy week.

The weather has been just perfect around here lately.

A few updates:

  • we had my parents in law stay with us for a week. They spoiled the grandkids, helped us out with things round the house, and spent some quality time together. They headed home on Wednesday.

  • It was my birthday! I turned 42, and realised that I’m on the right track right now with life because I don’t have a hint of a mid-life crisis looming! There have definitely been times in the past when things haven’t felt right (for example, when we were living in Sydney immediately post pandemic, with long commutes and unaffordable housing). It’s nice to take a moment to reflect and be grateful and satisfied with where we now live, my work, our family and friends. Things aren’t perfect (they never are, of course) but I feel like we are on the right track, which is a good gut feeling to have ❤️

  • For my birthday I spent time with the kids, had an extended family dinner, a dinner out with Al at a really good woodfired pizza restaurant, and a couple of very generous vouchers to go shopping for some clothes and other fun things. Mum and I have a shopping trip planned this weekend :)

Prosciutto and rocket pizza - yum! 😋

  • I’ve been having fun browsing planner options for next year! For the planner nerds out there. I’ve been in an Erin Condren softbound weekly hourly layout this year (with an accompanying notebook for daily planning), and I’ve really enjoyed it. I almost reordered, but I didn’t love the colour/pattern options (softbound is really limited compared to coil bound), so then I decided to try something new. I’ve settled on a Curation 2025 Original in Tropical Teal from Saint Belford. It’s a slight risk because it’s a horizontal layout, but in every other way it looks amazing so Im going to give it a go (and timeblock on certain days using a notebook instead). I’ll share when it arrives!

This years planner stack - but what will be for next year?

  • I’ve started Elisabeth’s Cool Bloggers Walking Club (CBWC) for October, where everyone (no need to be a blogger) is invited to walk at least 10 minutes a day in October. I did this the last time it ran and enjoyed it. This came at a perfect time as in September I did not walk every day, despite how much I enjoy it AND the weather being beautiful. So far so good- I’ve walked (much more than 10 minutes!) the first 3 days of October.

On a lunchtime walk

Of course there were kangaroos, with joeys because it’s Spring!

How has everyone else’s start to October been? Are you doing CBWC?

Happy Birthday! Yes, 42 is a good age. I'm glad you feel like you're in a good place right now!

I'm sure Elisabeth is thrilled to have you in the CBWC- you're the only one posting pictures of kangaroos. Just like last time, I want to be a Cool Walking Blogger but haven't managed to get those walks in everyday. Oh well, I'll just look at everyone else's photos!

Don’t want to bore everyone with TOO many kangaroos, I’ll have to mix it up! Ha!

Happy birthday!!! I haven't "officially" joined the walking club, but now that I'm home from Nashville I am sure I will easily hit at least 10 mins a day with Charlie! Although, I guess I just realized we'll be in Mexico next week, so it's harder for me to get walking in there, unfortunately.

Happy birthday! It’s nice to feel really content with life. I struggled more with birthdays in my 30s than my 40s. My 40s have been so much better since I have all the things I really wanted (great job, husband, kids). I wish I had the energy of my early 30s self though!!

So nice to have your in-laws around to help with the kids! I bet they made great memories, too!

Thanks Lisa! Yes the energy of my 30s (or 20s) would be nice! (Although perhaps we’d have more energy without little kids to parent?!)

Happy Birthday! Sounds like some fabulous celebrating <3

Of course I love the pictures of your walking and am SO darn happy you snapped a picture of kangaroos. That is one thing I can absolutely guarantee I won't see during my walking challenge...

Thank you! I will try to take photos of something other than kangaroos at some point, but they are just so darn cute 😆
