This is a bonus instalment in my 2025 Goals series. The first 3 posts were my primary goals and covered Word of the Year and Personal Goals, Health/Fitness and Home, and Family/Relationships and Work domains. I was not originally going to do a "25 for 2025" type list this year, as in previous years I'd made similar lists and not really engaged with them during the year. However, my new planner this year, the Curation 2025, has a page called Bucket List, with a fun visual format, that has 15 spots. So I thought that would be a fun alternative to a 25 for 2025 list. The idea of the bucket list, according to Curation, is for adventures, activities and experiences you want to have or do in 2025. I've put some of those but also added items I want to buy, since I don't actually buy many "fun" things, and felt like adding a couple of these to my list. I've filled in 13 slots to date, and will aim to add the last two a little later in the year, when I get ideas as the year progresses.
So here's my list (in no particular order):
Discover a new place with Mum and Dad - my parents are new to our region (and I've only been here 3 years) - and its fun to discover new locations. We spend a lot of time with my kids, but its fun to do something with just my parents, as adults, because we are more flexible in what we can do, and the dynamic is different
Buy nice beach towels - our current beach towels are an odd, eclectic, and somewhat worn bunch. The kids towels are little kid towels, whereas they are getting close to "bigger kids" - come November we will have no kids under 5, how wild is that! So I'd like to splash out (pardon the pun!) on 4 nice, matching beach towels for next summer.
Take a family holiday (maybe to Bali?) - This will be later in the year, but we'd like to take a bigger (possibly international) trip as a family. The last time we did this was Fiji in October 2023, and it was really fun! No one in our family has been to Bali before, and it is good for kids, beautiful, and affordable, so that is where we are considering.
Walk a local old rail trail which links our small town to a neighbouring one - this is a fun route to walk through beautiful forest (even through an old rail tunnel), I love walking, and yet I haven't done it yet. It would need a few hours, because you need to walk to the next town, probably have a refreshment, and then walk back. Unless I organise for Al to pick me up in the next town, also an option.
Re-coat my wedding rings - My engagement and wedding ring are coated in white gold, and to coincide with our 10th wedding anniversary, I'd like to get these re-coated. We have a friend who is a wonderful jeweller, so we will ask him to do the re-coating.
Start a compost bin - we live on a large property, and yet we don't have a system for composting - which is such a shame. I don't like throwing out so many kitchen scraps that could be turned into food for the garden. So this year I'd like to start a composting system - probably something simple like two bins that can be rotated.
Start a veggie patch- ditto above. So far I have grown a few herbs and tomatoes/strawberries in pots, but keen to have a big veggie patch to grow bigger veggies etc. My parents will help with this as they are both handy (Dad), and a keen gardener (Mum).
Plan a 10th wedding anniversary to remember - Al and I rarely celebrate our wedding anniversary, occasionally we go out for dinner, that's about it. Some years we have struggled to remember the exact date (it is close to O's birthday, which confuses us!). But this year is our 10 year anniversary, and I'd like us to do something special. It may be a holiday with the kids (see Take a family holiday above), or it may be a mini-break somewhere just the two of us. But I want it to be something special regardless.
Short camping trip with the kids - As a family we did this with another friend and her two kids in March last year and it was very fun. Just two nights at a local caravan park with a few spots for tents. We stayed in two camping spots side by side, the kids had fun on their scooters and in the gorgeous pool, they had that bit of independence you can have when camping (playing after dark, walking around other parts of the park on their own), and I'd like to do this again at some stage this year (my friend is keen too).
Go to a musical or concert - At this stage of life with young kids, going to see live music or theatre has not been a priority, although both Al and I love the experience. I 2023 I went to a musical (Hamilton - so good!) and a music gig, and in 2024 Al went to see a couple of live music gigs last year, but I don't think I did. I'd like to see at least one concert or musical (I LOVE musicals) in 2025.
Visit Amazeworld - this is somewhat random, but is a place with a huge hedge maze and other outdoor activities which in our region of QLD, and I really want to go. I think in winter when its mild and sunny, and not too hot, will be an ideal time of year. I'll be bringing the kids of course, but I'm keen to go myself and try out the maze! I might actually hate it, but I’ve never done a hedge maze so I want to try it!
Discover new restaurant/winery with Al - this is always fun, and could make a fun date night/day
Weekend in Brisbane with the kids - Brisbane is our closest major city in Australia, and it’s great for kids. (It has a huge meandering “fake beach” and river that kids can play in - featured in Bluey for fans!). Would be very fun to drive in (or even take the train), stay a night or two, and then head home. Would make a fun mini break.
Found this comparison online of real life Southbank and in Bluey hehe
Anyone made any 25 for 2025 or bucket list type goals? Are they only experiences or material things too?
We need new beach towels too!!! These are fun ideas. For our 10th anniversary Ivan and I did a 2 week backpacking trip through Spain and Italy! God bless my parents for staying with the kids all that time!! ha.
Oh and that last comment was me, Jenny.
I love it! I love that your planner has a space for this, and it's all fun stuff. I started making a "25 for 25" and it was all stuff along the lines of "get a mammogram" and "make Angie's dentist appointment." Ugh, so boring. I think I just need to make a 2025 Bucket List instead.
Is the town you’re referencing in that rail trail ‘Mooloolaba’? I remember getting so excited when I figured out how to pronounce that city when I studied in that area. Lol.. I did a 25 in 25 list this year and I’m really excited about it. Gretchen Ruben has a bingo card for the 25 in 25 so I filled that out and I’m looking forward to checking things off!!
